Mets update: Santana was the National League Pitcher of the Month for April. In five April starts he didn't allow more than two runs and struck out 44 in 32 2/3 innings. His only loss came against the Marlins on April 12, when the Mets scored just one run. That ended a streak of 18 straight starts without a defeat dating back to last July ... CF Carlos Beltran extended his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games last night ... As expected, the Mets have taken struggling LHP Oliver Perez out of the rotation just five starts into his 3-year, $36 million contract. He's been sent to the bullpen. Soft-tossing 40-year-old Kenshin Kawakami takes his spot in the rotation.
