Phillies LHP J.A. Happ (10-2, 2.59) vs. Pirates RHP Charlie Morton (3-6, 5.21)

Phillies update: Happ has pitched a career-high 135 2/3 innings, but the Phillies feel he is better suited to such a grind than a lot of rookies thanks to the number of years he spent building up arm strength in the minors ... Happ started against the Pirates on July 12, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings of a 5-2 win ... Happ has won his last two starts, allowing two runs on 11 hits in 14 2/3 innings ... Happ will get a chance to square off against Pirates star CF Andrew McCutchen, who figures to compete with him for the NL Rookie of the Year.

Story continues below.

Pirates update: Morton has faced the Phillies once before, in July of last season with the Braves. He allowed five runs in two innings of an 8-3 loss ... Morton allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings in his last outing and earned a 5-2 win ... Morton has lost four of his last five decisions ... Morton was acquired in the trade that sent CF Nate McLouth to Atlanta ... Morton's ERA is skewed by an outing against the Cubs on Aug. 14 in which he allowed 10 earned runs in one inning of a 17-2 loss.
