Phillies LHP Cole Hamels (7-8, 4.52) vs. Giants LHP Jonathan Sanchez (6-10, 4.27)

Giants update: Jonathan Sanchez, in his second full year in the big leagues, has begun to develop into a reliable starter. In his last nine games, he's 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA, including a no-hitter. Opponents are batting .168 against him in that span . . . RHP Tim Lincecum (13-4, 2.33), the defending NL Cy Young Award winner, was originally scheduled to start tomorrow but has been pushed back to Thursday after throwing 127 pitches last Friday. He'll face RHP Pedro Martinez (2-0, 4.50) . . . That leaves San Francisco without a starter for tomorrow night. There were reports the Giants were close to signing RHP Brad Penny, who cleared waivers yesterday after being released by the Red Sox, to face LHP J.A. Happ (10-3, 2.63) in that game.

The Phillies' magic number to clinch their third straight NL East title is 26 . . .
