Cooley and the gang

Redskins tight end Chris Cooley is not shy with an opinion. Whether it's on his blog, or in the media.

Yesterday, he caught a 17-yard touchdown against the Giants, equaling his total number of TDs for all of last season. And here is what he had to say:

"I think we showed flashes of what we can do offensively, but we weren't consistent, and we didn't take care of the ball, we had some silly penalties, and we stopped ourselves on drives . . . They've been a good football team the past couple of years, but I think, in our locker room right now, we feel like we left a win out on the field. We're disappointed."

Story continues below.

Feeling the draft

It was a bit of a mixed bag for the first-round draft picks of the NFC East teams in their debuts yesterday.

Washington linebacker Brian Orakpo, chosen 13th overall, had two tackles.

Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin, chosen 19th, did not have a reception.

Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks, chosen 29th, had two catches for 18 yards, but left the game with a sprained left foot.

Dallas did not have a first-round pick.

Who's T.O.?

Cowboys receiver Roy Williams seem to be on a mission to prove his critics wrong. He got off to a good start with three catches, 86 yards and a TD against Tampa.

"It's just one game," Williams told reporters. "My thing is consistency. I have to come out and do it next Sunday night against the big-time New York Giants. That'll be another test for us. It's not just about one game. I know what I can do. You guys have no clue what I can do."

Nice fake

Washington scored its first touchdown on punter Hunter Smith's 8-yard run on a fake field goal. It was the first time an opposing team executed a fake field goal against the Giants since Sept. 7, 2003 - also a season-opening game in Giants Stadium - when the Rams' Dane Looker threw an 11-yard pass to Brandon Manumaleuna. The last time an opponent scored on a fake field goal was almost exactly 13 years ago - Sept. 15, 1996. The opponents were the Redskins. Gus Frerotte threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Scott Galbraith.

Gotta run

The Cowboys allowed 174 rushing yards to Tampa Bay and face the Giants and Panthers in the next two games. That could be a problem.
