Phillies at Marlins preview

Phillies LHP Cole Hamels (10-9, 4.07) vs. Marlins RHP Rick VandenHurt (2-2, 4.24)

Phillies update: After a season full of ups and downs, Hamels might finally have found his groove: He has allowed just six runs in 37 2/3 innings over his last five starts and is coming off an eight-inning win over the Nationals in which he allowed one run on five hits and struck out 10 ... Hamels last faced the Marlins on Aug. 8, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 6-4 loss ... Chase Utley's stolen base in the first game of yesterday's doubleheader was his 25th consecutive successful steal.

Marlins update: VandenHurk, 24, a native of the Netherlands, is makinghis 10th start of the season. He has faced the Phillies twice, both in his rookie season of 2007, allowing nine runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings ... VandenHurk has allowed five runs in 15 innings in his last three starts, but just two runs in 10 innings in his last two starts ... The Marlins' 16 strikeouts of the Phillies in yesterday's first game marked the fifth time this season they struck out at least 15 in a game.
