Mickey D's, here she comes

The Battling Bickersons of Berks County are at it again. Big time. Kate Gosselin made a misty appearance on the Today show yesterday, confirming reports that estranged hub Jon had emptied out their joint bank account, taking $230,000 and leaving her with $1,000. "I have a stack of bills in my purse I can't put in the mail," she told Meredith Vieira. Left unanswered: why she would stuff her bag with bills for a TV appearance in Manhattan. Maybe she thought it was a telethon?

Later, Lady G. put in a call to The View, vowing on air that "if I have to work at McDonald's, I will do what I have to for my kids!"

While Kate was waging her PR campaign in the media, her lawyer, Mark Momjian, was filing papers in Montgomery County Court to recoup the money she claims Jon grabbed. "We went to court this morning to protect her rights," Momjian told RadarOnline.com. "We are seeking sanctions against Jon Gosselin and we want the money returned, now."

Jon fired back, expressing bewilderment. "Over the past four years of doing the show, we accrued $2,250,000," he said. "I have withdrawn roughly $177,000 over the course of a year, which is less than 10 percent of what we made. That's like my paycheck."

The $230,000 figure? "A total fabrication," according to Jon. "She's hiding money. We have 11 bank accounts. That was just our joint account. She had a best-selling book. Where's that million dollars?"

OK, now the gloves are off and the brass knuckles are on. This divorce has officially gotten ugly.

A simple 'I'm sorry' won't do

Late Show host David Letterman, who told the world on Thursday's program that he was the object of a blackmail threat, used last night's program to apologize to his wife, saying she had been "horribly hurt by my behavior."

"Let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me," said Letterman, according to an early transcript of the program released by CBS.

When Letterman revealed the alleged plot to expose him as a Late Show Lothario, he admitted having affairs with female staffers.

Letterman also apologized to his staff.
