Payoff winner has her dad, and Jayson Werth, to thank

Bernadette Dougherty may be a monster Phillies fan, but she's a mom first.

Glued to the television watching last night's Phillies-Rockies clash, Dougherty, 43, of Feasterville had to skip out at the beginning of the sixth inning to pick up her children.

It was in that inning Jayson Werth belted the first Daily News Home Run Playoff Payoff homer of the year making Dougherty $1,000 richer.

"I was watching the game and had to pick my kids up from CCD and of course the second I leave I miss hearing my name called. That would have been really cool to hear - but money's nice too."

Dougherty has her dad to thank as he submitted her name and plans to do something nice for the "big guy." It marked was the first Playoff Payoff homer since Greg Luzinski hit one that made Upper Merion resident John Capinski a winner back on Oct. 10, 1976.

"People have been calling me but it was my 14-year-old son [Sean] who told me I won first," Dougherty said. "It's great because he's [Werth] is his favorite player so he was all excited."

Talk about a win-win.

Three others were winners during the sixth inning of the Daily News Home Run Playoff Payoff contest yesterday. They were:
