Just when the recruiting scramble for Jesse "Booge" Morgan was heating up, it's over.

Morgan, a 6-4, 180-pound wing guard who's now spending a year at South Kent Prep in Connecticut after last year earning first-team Daily News All-City honors at Olney, yesterday made an oral commitment to Seton Hall.

That meant he canceled a visit to Louisville, scheduled for this coming weekend, and said thanks but no thanks to schools such as Connecticut, Indiana, Rutgers, Rhode Island and, yes, two locals - Temple and La Salle.

"I like that Seton Hall is not too far, but a little bit away, so I won't get nagged too much about things," Morgan said. "It's good because my family will be able to come up and see me play.

"It's definitely different being away. But I'm adapting pretty well. You need that balance between basketball and academics."

Morgan said he has clicked with SH coach Bobby Gonzalez.

"The one thing that separates him is that he lets you play your game," said Morgan, who plans to major in communications. "A lot of coaches said things to me. What stuck with me from him is that he sees me playing plenty of minutes as a freshman and possibly starting. To get a chance like that at a Big East school, that means a lot.

"I liked all the coaches and players on my visit. I got along with everybody. Felt very comfortable."

Morgan played his first three high school seasons at Prep Charter. After transferring last year to Olney, his neighborhood school, he averaged 28 points, the third-best total among city-leagues players, while leading the Trojans to a 19-3 overall record.

More commitments

Three senior players from Friends' Central have given oral commitments to Boston University, which is coached by Episcopal Academy grad Patrick Chambers - power forward Dominic Morris, small forward Travis Robinson and combo guard H.J. Gaskins. Robinson and Gaskins played at Penn Charter through the 2007-08 season.
