Time is running out . . .

District students must return their applications with up to five choices to their guidance counselor by Oct. 30.

Nondistrict students, including charter and private-school students, are advised to send their forms to the Office of Student Placement at district headquarters, 440 North Broad St., Suite 114, Portal A, first floor, Philadelphia 19130. The office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., except holidays.

Students applying to charter schools should send their forms to those schools.

Generally, district schools that have criteria for admission select students based on their seventh- grade standardized-test scores in reading and math, report-card grades, attendance and behavior. Some schools may require additional criteria or an interview.

High-school students who want to transfer to another school should send a high-school voluntary-transfer application to the Office of Student Placement, also by Oct. 30.

If mailed, applications must be postmarked no later than the deadline. Parents can also bring the applications to the district office to ensure they are received on time.
