On the road: Teams split four games, June 4-7
Quick recap: Cole Hamels pitched a five-hitter at Dodger Stadium for his third career shutout and the Phillies won their seventh straight in the opener, 3-0. The streak ended the next night when Andre Ethier's two-run double in the ninth resulted in Brad Lidge's fifth blown save of the season, a 4-3 Phillies loss. Lidge blew another the next day as Rafael Furcal hit a game-tying homer in the ninth and then Ethier won it, 3-2, with a homer off Chad Durbin in the 12th. They were the first back-to-back Phillies losses since May 13-14 - against the Dodgers. The Phillies took the final game, 7-2, thanks to homers from Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz.
Recent playoff history: The Phillies beat the Dodgers in five games in last year's NLCS.
