Flyers' Pronger compares Philly, LA

  • Chris Pronger won a Stanley Cup in Anaheim.

Chris Pronger has only been in Philadelphia a few months and he already notices a difference between Philly fans and Dodgers fans in Orange County, Calif.

Pronger would know. He spent the last three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks.

"It's certainly different," Pronger said. "Philly fans are very passionate about their sports teams. They really take to them."

Pronger saw the fans in Orange County, a non-traditional hockey market in Southern California, at their best and worst.

He won a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007, but he also saw them not draw too many fans on some nights. Anaheim has been near the bottom third in NHL attendance over the last three seasons.

"The fans there are pretty good," Pronger said. "They can be quiet but they can also be really charged up and excited. I think we saw that in the playoffs."

For baseball, it's just a totally different story.

"I know there is a lot of excitement out there right now," Pronger said. "They love their Angels and everyone around there is a Dodgers fan." *
