Eagles vs. Chargers: The pick

November 13, 2009

AFTER LAST WEEK, I think I might resort to coin-

flipping, or maybe placing each team's logo on the floor and seeing which one my dog sniffs first.

The Eagles haven't lost back-to-back games this season, but that doesn't mean it's a law or anything. I have zero feel for what the Chargers are up to - they're 5-3, just like the Eagles, and like the Eagles, a little less than what they probably should be. They've beaten the Raiders twice; maybe they could give the Birds some pointers on that.

Story continues below.

San Diego has won three in a row, and its defense, after posting ugly numbers like 38 points against by the Steelers, 34 by the Broncos and 31 by the Ravens, has given up an average of 14.3 points per game during the winning streak.

While it's true that Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown are the Birds' most important corners, losing Ellis Hobbs and Joselio Hanson going into a matchup against a team with multiple weapons isn't good.

I think the Eagles will have to keep the score down, play ball-control and stick with the ground game against the NFL's 26th-ranked run defense in order to win. Is Andy Reid going to do that?

Prediction

Chargers 27, Eagles 23.
