As playoffs near, it's pop quiz time

December 02, 2009

And down the stretch we come! And by "we" I mean "you." Because my postseason drive hit a hydrant and the neighbor's tree pulling out of the driveway. (Too soon?)

 Week 13

The Week You Put It All Together for the Playoffs.

Starters

Donovan McNabb – Pop Quiz:

Quarterback A - 1,421 yards / 9 touchdowns / 7 turnovers over the last five weeks.

Quarterback 2 - 1,535 yards / 9 touchdowns / 7 interceptions over the last five weeks.

You're swift, so you know one of them is McNabb (QB A). QB 2 is Peyton Manning. Now, I'm not calling Donovan Peyton and Peyton Donovan, but the numbers don't lie. And the fact that McNabb's being started in just 44 percent of leagues (and Peyton 97 percent) makes Donovan an interesting play.

Matt Schaub - Yes, Schaub has thrown more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (5) over the last four weeks (4). And sure, he probably got his coach fired with his weak-sauce performance last week. The thing is, he's huge when it doesn't matter. Plus, all-points bulletin: Start any QB vs. Jacksonville.

Alex Smith / Vince Young / Carson Palmer - If you've been starting Cutler, Ryan, Hasselbeck, or Eli - and you're not eliminated from the playoffs yet - your league's a joke. Also, one of these three is your ticket to the playoffs. I'm partial to Vince because of the runs and the fact that the Colts' secondary has averaged 300 yards passing allowed over the last four weeks. But Palmer has the Lions, and the Lions' D is made of cheesecloth.

Knowshon Moreno - He has 265 yards rushing over the last three weeks, better than Gore, Forte, Jacobs, and Mendenhall. And yet he's benched in 60 percent of leagues.

Donnie Avery - Five TDs in his last six games with Bulger/Boller throwing him the ball. Moral of the story? Speed kills. Which is why I always went with the elf in Gauntlet.

Chris Chambers - If I was ranking a list of fantasy teases from the last 20 years, he'd be just behind Winnie Cooper. But he's averaging 80 yards a game since joining the Chiefs, and he's available (14 percent owned).

Kenny Britt - Pop Quiz No. 2:

Receiver I - 19 receptions / 194 yards / 2 TDs over the last three weeks.

Receiver, Too - 13 receptions / 225 yards / 2 TDs over the last three weeks.
