Also in Collingswood: Alex Capasso, who owns Blackbird on Collings Avenue, signed a deal to take the old Woolworth's store at 712 Haddon Ave., which last was the Painted Cottage. He's calling it West Side Gravy, and he promises contemporary comfort food in a refined atmosphere, in 60 to 90 days.
Caterers on the move
Joe Volpe, who owns Cescaphe Ballroom in Northern Liberties and caters at the Curtis Center on Washington Square, is adding an a la carte component as he joins sommelier Jen Kremer in a wine/whiskey bar called Cooperage, in the Curtis Center on the Seventh and Sansom Streets side. DIE Creative has designed a 30-seat square-horseshoe-shaped bar and bar area on one side, with a small cafe on the other side. Opening is planned in early April. Menus and drawings are at http://go.philly.com/cooperage.
Jon Weinrott of caterer Peachtree & Ward has taken the top level of the Pier Shops at Caesars in Atlantic City for a private catering venue called One Atlantic.
Ulysses Voyage, the luxe Greek restaurant coming to Deux Cheminees' former space at 1221-23 Locust St., is now on track for April. This place will be a knockout, complete with a piano to be tickled during dinner.
Paesano's South Philly sandwich shop at Ninth and Christian Streets has opened; hours are Wednesdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wrap Shack Kitchen & Bar (120 S. 18th St.), newly liquor-licensed, stocks 70 beers for drink-in or takeout, along with five beers on tap.
Xochitl, the Society Hill Mexican, is closed for two weeks of renovations that will coincide with a more streamlined menu under new chef Lucio Palazzo. Prevous chef Dionicio Jimenez has left to join the unnamed Stephen Starr Mexican project at 2013 Chestnut St. as executive chef.
