Indy set final roster, eye opener

The Independence's 22-player roster for their inaugural Women's Professional Soccer season has been selected, and it includes nine national-team players from six countries.

The nine capped players are Heather Mitts, Amy Rodriguez and Lori Lindsey of the U.S., along with Karina Le Blanc of Canada, Karina Maruyama of Japan, Caroline Seger and Sara Larsson of Sweden, Lianne Sanderson of England, and Holmfridur Magnusdottir of Iceland.

Rosters consist of 18 players and four optional developmental players. Teams suit up 18 players for home games and 16 for road contests.

Coach Paul Riley's Independence opens the regular season April 11 against a fellow expansion team, the Atlanta Beat, at West Chester University.

Here is the complete roster:

Forwards: Danesha Adams, Magnusdottir, Maruyama, Lyndsey Patterson, Rodriguez, Sanderson.

Midfielders: Jennifer Buczkowski, Lindsey, Joanna Lohman, Seger.

Defenders: Allison Falk, Estelle Johnson, Nikki Krzysik, Larsson, Mitts, Sarah Senty.

Goalkeepers: Val Henderson, LeBlanc.

On the developmental roster:

Forwards: Carrie Patterson, Gina DiMartino.

Defender: Katherine Reynolds.

Goalkeeper: Robyn Jones.
