British actress Lynn Redgrave, who died May 2 at age 67, was memorialized by friends and family Saturday at a funeral service in Connecticut. (She was interred later that day in Lithgow, N.Y.)

Mourners included Lynn's sister Vanessa, her niece Joely Richardson, and Liam Neeson, widower of Lynn's niece, Natasha Richardson, USA Today and BBC News report.

Brendan Fraser, who costarred with Lynn Redgrave in the 1998 film Gods and Monsters, spoke of her "quiet bliss and enthusiasm." He said she taught him to love and respect the art of acting.

"I think if I ever saw her sad it was in a performance," he added.

Redgrave, who died of breast cancer, was the third child of actors Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson.

His steel tights paid off

Serious thesp turned action figure Robert Downey Jr. helped elevate the comic book sequel Iron Man 2 to the top of the weekend box-office charts. According to studio estimates, it made $133.6 mil in its opening weekend, the fifth-highest opening weekend gross in the history of Western culture.

The widely lambasted Nightmare on Elm Street dropped off 72 percent from its opening weekend to slip to No. 2 with $9.2 mil. Kiddie flick How to Train Your Dragon took No. 3 with $6.7 mil.

Betty White gives 'SNL' a big win

The radical political-action group that mounted a Facebook campaign to have Betty White host Saturday Night Live has been vindicated!

Saturday's episode, which was hosted by the 88-year-old Mary Tyler Moore Show alum, scored the show's largest TV audience since the Nov. 1, 2008, show featuring Sen. John McCain and Tina Fey - in her immortal role as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The Mother's Day-themed episode had White make fun of her age, albeit not in an ageist or mean-spirited way.

Michelle Duggar's Mother's Day

"This Mother's Day is definitely going to be different because we'll be at the hospital," 19 Kids and Counting star Michelle Duggar told People mag.

Duggar spent the day at the neonatal intensive-care unit of Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock with preemie Josie Brooklyn. "This is the first time I've been in the hospital on Mother's Day," she said.

Josie was born Dec. 10 at a gestational age of 25 weeks, weighing just 1 pound 6 ounces. "She reached the 6-pound mark today," Duggar said.

Prospero's future as a woman

Julie Taymor, the director responsible for the stage treat The Lion King and the big-screen musical, Across the Universe, is filming an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, about an exiled sorcerer stranded on a tropical island who tries to shield his daughter from sexual temptation.

Taymor's flick, which is due in December, makes one minor change: Prospero will be played by a woman, namely Prime Suspect goddess Helen Mirren.

"I wanted to do it because there are actresses like Helen Mirren who never get to play these fantastic parts because they were not written for women," Taymor tells USA Today. Taymor previously brought the Bard to the silver screen with 1999's Titus, which featured Anthony Hopkins.
