W. Phila. man severely burned in house fire

A 55-year-old man suffered severe burns in a residential fire in West Philadelphia Thursday, officials said.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. in the 3800 block of Girard Avenue and was under control in about 20 minutes, officials said.

The victim had third and second degree burns to his face, chest and arms, and was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, officials said. The cause was not immediately known. - Robert Moran
