Hayes said police know but won't release the name of the shooter, a 21-year-old fugitive.
The two suspects were caught on a store surveillance video. Shortly before the shooting, Adams had walked a female patron, who used to work at his bar, to her car. As Adams was returning to his bar, the shooter held Adams up at gunpoint, then shot Adams twice and stole something from his pocket before fleeing.
Adams was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition. He died there about 9:30 a.m. May 10.
Police previously had said the two assailants were Hispanic. Hayes said both are light-skinned black men. He said the viewing of the surveillance video by the public and interviews with witnesses helped lead police to their identifications.
Dixon, who is in county prison, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 2 on charges of murder, robbery, conspiracy, firearms and related charges.
Court records show that he was arrested in September on charges of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.
