Francis Bowe will become the boys' basketball coach at Upper Merion, pending approval by the school district's board of directors on June 7, according to sources familiar with the search.

Bowe, 26, was a varsity assistant the last two seasons at Radnor. Before that, he was a varsity and JV assistant at Upper Merion for two years.

Bowe, of Phoenixville, played basketball at St. Pius X in Pottstown, and Gwynedd-Mercy College. He is a social studies teacher at Abington Junior High.

Jonathan Groom stepped down as the Vikings' coach after last season for personal reasons, athletic director Earl Burnham said.
