Police shot and killed a dog Friday afternoon as they served an arrest warrant in Port Richmond.
Officers from the Northeast Detectives warrant unit went to the 4500 block of Hale Street about 2:15 p.m. to serve Christopher Padgeon, 26, with a warrant for contempt of court. As they entered the man's house, Padgeon put the dog, a pit bull, in the kitchen and blocked the doorway with a board. When the officers handcuffed Padgeon the dog jumped the board and charged. An officer drew a gun and fired. The dog spun in a circle and charged again. A second shot killed it, police said.
