Letters: Philadelphia should stop dithering & sell that delinquent property!

Posted: June 28, 2010

CITY REVENUE Commissioner Keith Richardson tells the DN he "wouldn't guess the amount of uncollectible taxes." (But I bet he could probably tell you exactly how much his Deferred Retirement Option Plan payment will be.)

Of the $582 million in taxes and $360 million in interest and penalties, how much is from real estate, not individuals, that haven't "died or moved away to unknown locations, or by businesses that have gone bankrupt or closed their doors"?

In other words, Mayor Nutter and Commissioner Richardson, sell all the delinquent real-estate properties at sheriff's sales and get as much as you can from those deadbeats who continue to occupy those properties and won't pay their taxes even after an amnesty.
