US Airways performance nabs 3 top spots

July 09, 2010

US Airways Group Inc. got the No. 1 spot in three categories in the U.S. Department of Transportation's May 2010 Air Travel Consumer Report.

Philadelphia's dominant carrier took the top spot among the big five "legacy" airlines in on-time performance, baggage handling, and customer satisfaction.

As a result, each of US Airways' 31,000 employees will receive $50 per category, or $150 apiece, totaling $5.1 million.

US Airways beat United Airlines by half a percentage point in on-time performance, Continental Airlines by 10 bags in baggage handling, and eight complaints in customer satisfaction, according to a memo sent to employees. The award marks the first time US Airways had three No. 1 finishes since the Arizona-based carrier merged with America West Airlines in 2005.    - Linda Loyd
