They plan to get married within the next six weeks.
Before they change their minds.
Earlier this month, Levi, 20, acknowledged telling lies about the Palin family after he and Bristol broke up last year. He says he's apologized.
Us executive editor Caroline Schaefer told "Today" that Bristol approached the magazine looking for a platform to explain why she got engaged.
Because she loves him? Is there another reason?
Asked whether Us paid for the interview, Schaefer would only say that the magazine paid for the expenses of the photo shoot.
* Meanwhile, RadarOnline.com reports that Bristol and Levi have been living together in Anchorage, Alaska, for some time, say neighbors.
"Even though Levi spends the night at Bristol's every single night," said one anonymous source, "they have to be on high alert in case Sarah stops by to see Tripp.
"As soon as they hear her car, Levi escapes out the back door and waits for a text from Bristol to tell him the coast is clear!"
The daily Lindsay
In other dysfunctional family news, Lindsay Lohan - whose attorney Shawn Chapman Holley abruptly quit last week and whose first two replacements quit before they even filed a brief - wants her next attorney to represent her for free, reports RadarOnline.com.
A RadarOnline anonymous inside source said, "Lindsay doesn't think she should pay for a new lawyer, period. Lindsay has gone through two attorneys already."
Hey, Lindsay doesn't think she should go to jail, so her opinion is already suspect.
The insider told Radar that Lindsay has met with famed O.J. Simpson lawyer Robert Shapiro but that "Robert hasn't decided if he is going to take the case or not."
The problem in finding a new lawyer, reports Radar, is that unlike a bankrupt newspaper, Lindsay doesn't have unlimited resources for legal fees.
"The type of lawyers Lindsay is used to having are expensive because they are simply the best at what they do," said the source. "Lindsay just doesn't have the money that she used to pay for the best. The lawyers she is interviewing wouldn't represent her for free, period."
Those lawyers wouldn't represent their mothers for free.
But Lindsay better find a new attorney soon. She's due to turn herself in July 20.
* Lindsay's mom, Dina Lohan, breaking a rare silence, told In Touch that "If Lindsay went to jail, I would fear for her life.
"Jail doesn't help anyone no matter what problem you have - unless you're a rapist or a murderer."
Thank you, doctor.
Finger-pointer Dina blames the legal system for persecuting Lindsay for being "in the public eye," and of course, she blames her ex-husband Michael, who claims Lindsay still has substance-abuse problems.
"She's not drinking, and she's wearing an alcohol-monitoring bracelet on her ankle," Dina said of Lindsay, who has been in rehab three times.
Continuing her cruise down denial, when asked how Lindsay felt about going to jail, Dina replied, "I don't want to speak hypothetically [about jail] because she's not going to be in that situation."
Huh?
"This wasn't a violent crime," Dina continued, "but they're saying you miss a DUI class and have to go to jail for three months - that's absurd."
Dina, wake up! The only reason this wasn't a violent crime is because Lindsay was lucky enough not to hit someone while she was driving drunk. She's not going to jail because she missed algebra class. She's going to jail because her problem could kill people.
The daily Mel
Another day, another rant.
In the latest kook-on-tape release on RadarOnline.com, Mel Gibson demands sex from his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and tells her he will burn down the house afterward.
How dare Oksana fall asleep without giving Mel a happy ending to his day.
Mel rages: "I deserve to be blown first! Before the f---ing Jacuzzi! Ok, I'll burn the goddamn house up, but blow me first! How dare you?!"
Silver-tongued devil.
* RadarOnline also reports that Mel pulled a handgun on Oksana as she tried to escape his Malibu mansion after their violent Jan. 6 confrontation.
"I will show you how to get out of here fast," he reportedly said.
* Meanwhile, TMZ.com reports that Oksana's 12-year-old son, Alexander Dalton, saw much of the verbal smackdown between his mom and Mel, making him a crucial witness if Mel is prosecuted for domestic violence.
Alexander did not see the alleged punches.
TMZ reports that another key witness could be Oksana's longtime dentist, Dr. Ross Shelden, who fixed her broken veneers and offered to let Oksana stay at his house because he was concerned Mel might further beat her.
