Daily News reader's tip leads cops to fugitive

An anonymous tip from a Daily News reader led police yesterday to a man wanted on attempted murder charges stemming from an incident in South Philadelphia in May, authorities said.

Eric Burley, 29, was arrested early yesterday on Church Street near Leiper after authorities received information that he may have been staying with a friend, authorities said.

Burley, whose last known address was on Wilder Street near 18th, in Point Breeze, was wanted for a shooting May 5 at Big Fellas Sports Bar, on 33rd Street near Wharton, in Grays Ferry, investigators said.

He was profiled as the Daily News' most-wanted fugitive of the week on June 28. When authorities came to arrest him yesterday, they also found a 12-gauge shotgun under the sofa on which he was sitting, cops said.

Authorities said that Burley, also known as Butter, appeared to be under the influence of narcotics at the time of his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident, cops said.

Burley had two other active bench warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of aggravated assault and weapons offenses in separate incidents, authorities said.
