Shawn Valentine, a senior from Winslow Township and one of the most versatile basketball players in South Jersey, has made a commitment to Rider.

The 6-foot-6 Valentine said he was recruited to be a small forward. Last season, he averaged 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Valentine said he chose Rider over La Salle and Rutgers.

"Rider was the place for me," Valentine said. "I loved the family atmosphere, they love to win, and it's close to home."

Valentine said another factor was potential playing time.

"If I keep working hard, there will be a chance to play right away," said Valentine, who was recruited to be a small forward. "My goal is to go in and play as a freshman."
