Haddonfield law firm Archer & Greiner P.C. announced Thursday that Christopher Gibson, chairman of the firm's litigation department, has been elected president of the firm, effective Oct. 1.

He will succeed Gary J. Lesneski, who has accepted a position as general counsel of the Cooper Health System in Camden.

Gibson, a member of Archer & Greiner's board of directors, said he planned along with other managers to continue the firm's efforts to expand in the region.

In January, the 175-lawyer firm said it had hired former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham. In all, it has added about 40 lawyers in the last two years, including 21 lawyers as a result of a 2008 merger with Philadelphia-based Pelino & Lentz P.C.

"I plan to continue that course and look for opportunities to grow the firm," Gibson said. "When there are difficult economic times, people become concerned about their security at other firms, and that has brought us many more opportunities to look for [individual lawyers], groups, and sometimes smaller firms."

Gibson, who received his bachelor's and law degrees from Villanova University, lives in West Deptford. He has spent his entire career at Archer & Greiner and is known as a top environmental litigator.
