Of course, he could lose that spot if he doesn't report for the start of Tuesday's morning practice.
Defensive end Brandon Graham, meanwhile, is not expected to be at camp any time soon. The Eagles' top draft pick out of Michigan isn't the only first-rounder without a contract. In fact, only Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant has comes to terms.
"To me it's crunch time," Reid said. "But I'm not sure that urgency is there, and I'm not saying with Brandon, but with the agents that are involved with all of these first-round picks."
Messages left with Allen's agent, Todd France, and Graham's agent, Joel Segal, have not been returned.
While it is rare for a second-round draft pick to hold out, Allen, selected 37th overall, isn't the only player from that round to remain unsigned. Through Sunday, only 11 of 32 second-round picks had signed. The 35th and 38th overall selections - Tampa Bay defensive tackle Brian Price and Cleveland safety T.J. Ward - have signed, however, and set the salary structure.
If Allen misses some time, it could bode well for Quintin Demps or rookie Kurt Coleman, who missed most of spring workouts because of an NFL rule that forbids recent draft picks who are still in college from participating in team practices.
"I want to contribute whatever way I can to this team," Coleman said. "I think I have a good shot at starting."
Herremans is out
Reid said guard Todd Herremans would begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, joining center Jamaal Jackson (knee) and defensive end Victor Abiamiri (knee).
Herremans' status is a mild surprise, given the way the team played down the left foot problems that forced him to miss practices in June. At that time, Reid said his starting guard would be good to go by training camp.
"We'll gradually bring him back," Reid said. "I don't want him to jump in and hurt himself again. I just want to take it nice and slow."
