Manuel went onto the field and gestured wildly at Eddings, who gave Manuel his third ejection of the season.
In June 1999, when he was the Mets' manager, Valentine was suspended for two games and fined $5,000 by the National League for returning to the dugout in a disguise after being ejected from a game against Toronto.
Valentine insisted that he was not in the dugout.
"The picture looked like I was in the dugout, but they got it all wrong," he said before showing reporters the spot between the runway and the dugout where he stood wearing a fake mustache and glasses for the final two innings.
"I did it to lighten up the team," he said.
Strasburg scratched
Rookie sensation Stephen Strasburg, who was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night for Washington, has inflammation in his pitching shoulder.
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Strasburg had "stiffness and discomfort" in his right shoulder, but an MRI and X-ray show no structural damage.
"Given a couple of days' rest and anti-inflammatories, he should be better," Rizzo said.
The Nationals did not make Strasburg available for comment, saying he went for tests immediately after he encountered trouble. Miguel Batista was summoned on short notice and earned the win over Atlanta.
Street hurt by liner in batting practice
Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street bruised the right side of his abdomen when he was hit by a line drive Tuesday in batting practice.
The team said that he was sent home to rest and that his availability would be on a day-to-day basis.
The accident happened on the night all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki returned after missing nearly six weeks because of a broken left wrist.
Street was taken by ambulance to an emergency room for further examination.
Rockies head athletic trainer Keith Dugger said that Street passed out "two or three times" and had ringing in his ears after being struck by the liner off the bat of Ian Stewart as Street warmed up in right field.
