Moyer's season is over, but he says not his career

Jamie Moyer admits his 2010 season is pretty much over. But if you think he is calling it a career, you haven't paid attention to his first 24 seasons in the big leagues.

A visit to renowned surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Wednesday confirmed what the veteran lefthander said he was told by Phillies doctor Michael Ciccotti: He doesn't need surgery, and while any rehab program likely will sideline him for the rest of this season, he has a chance of working his ailing elbow into shape by the start of spring training.

Is he determined to pitch in 2011?

"I really am," said Moyer, who suffered a sprain of his UCL and a strain of his flexor pronator tendon last week in St. Louis.

Where he will have the opportunity remains to be seen. Moyer, 47, who joined the Phillies midway through the 2006 season, will be a free agent after this season.

"I've really enjoyed my opportunity pitching here," said Moyer, who will earn $8 million through the rest of the season. "That isn't up to me. That's up to the organization. I would love that opportunity. But I don't know what their plans are."
