The "live" periods are what camp is all about. It's when the first-team offense faces the second-team defense and vice versa, and the third teams collide and (almost) anything goes. The quarterbacks are off-limits.
Saturday will also be the first time fans - except for the few brave souls who attended the early portion of camp this week - get to see all the new faces on the roster. There are 37 of them.
Thank goodness the players have their names stitched across their backs.
Linebacker Ernie Sims, acquired in April, is one of those new faces. He's one of the guys with dreadlocks not named Asante Samuel.
Plays of the day
Wide receiver Jason Avant pulled in a Michael Vick pass with one hand as he stretched out into the end zone. "That was without any defenders out there to really challenge you," a modest Avant said.
Free safety Nate Allen had back-to-back interceptions off QB Mike Kafka as the first-team defense faced the third-team offense during 11-on-11 drills. Both passes were tipped into the rookie's hands.
