When I made calls and eventually voted for Barack Obama, I did so with the understanding that he and the Democratic majority in Congress would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, not only have these conflicts not been resolved, but one, Iraq, remains an uncertain quagmire, and the other, Afghanistan, has escalated.
There is an absolute disconnect between those of us who voted for hope and change - and yes, peace - and our leaders in the White House and Congress. We voted to end the politicization of war, and to get back to the ideals and values this country was built on. Instead, our country continues to throw trillions of dollars into bottomless pits in two godforsaken countries, while our economy and infrastructure at home crumble, and worse, people continue to die.
