Domonic Brown, Phillies

Posted: August 12, 2010

Domonic Brown's arrival to Citizen Bank Park was moved up because of a string of injuries to Phillies regulars. Still, he might have to play his way back to the minors.

Given his physical skills and the way he's succeeded at every level thus far, a return to the minors won't be a popular choice, but it might happen with the imminent return of centerfielder Shane Victorino from the disabled list.

The Phillies haven't had a lot of potential five-tool players in their history, with perhaps Scott Rolen being the closest most recently, and before that Mike Schmidt and Dick Allen.

Considering Brown got a standing ovation from a sellout crowd before his first major league at-bat, there is the pressure of expectations.

But Brown's development should be aided by the fact that he is surrounded by championship teammates and has a manager in Charlie Manuel who already has been through the indoctrinations of such high-profile youngsters as Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Cole Hamels.
