Attorney denies robbery involvement for Drexel athlete

The lawyer for Drexel University basketball player Jamie Harris said Wednesday that Harris had been falsely implicated in the armed robbery of a Drexel student on July 21.

Gregory Pagano also questioned the importance of the videotape that police have.

"The video that I saw, I don't think anyone could make an identification," Pagano said after Wednesday's preliminary hearing was postponed until Sept. 9.

Harris and fellow Drexel player Kevin Phillip, along with student Devon Bond, are accused of robbing the student at gunpoint in her apartment on the 3500 block of Lancaster Avenue. All three men were arrested and suspended from Drexel.

Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives said Harris, a former New York high school star and Drexel's leading scorer last season; Phillip, who was a backup forward; and Bond all played roles in the robbery.

"We have witnesses and we are well-prepared," he said. "We will move this case and present evidence."

Bond's attorney, James A. Lineberger, who came out of retirement as a Common Pleas Court Judge to defend the student, confirmed that his client was at the apartment but noted that the victim had willingly let Bond into the room. Lineberger said Bond did not participate in the robbery.

Phillip's attorney, Scott DiClaudio, declined comment.
