DeSEAN JACKSON, JEREMY MACLIN, EAGLES

August 12, 2010

Poor Donovan McNabb. After one season with the best wide-receiving tandem he had as an Eagle, he gets traded to the Washington Redskins.

Kevin Kolb will be the beneficiary of what has the potential to the top wide-receiver twosome in Eagles history. DeSean Jackson was a star from the start. Injuries made him the first rookie receiver to start a season opener under Andy Reid, but Jackson's six catches for 106 yards against the St. Louis Rams was a sign of things to come.

Story continues below.

Jackson set an Eagles rookie record with 62 catches and 912 receiving yards.

Last season, he vaulted to elite NFL status by becoming the biggest big playmaker in the game.

In a Pro Bowl season, Jackson had 63 catches for 1,167 yards. He tied an NFL record with eight touchdowns of more than 50 yards.

As a rookie last season, Maclin didn't make the initial splash the way Jackson did, but by the time it was done, he'd accumulated 55 catches for 762 yards and four touchdowns.

In the Eagles' playoff loss to Dallas, Maclin set a team playoff record with 146 receiving yards.

The 76-yard touchdown he caught from Michael Vick made him the youngest player to score in an NFL playoff game.

Maclin's strength is more in running after the catch.

If Kolb is, as touted, a more accurate passer than McNabb, Maclin could make the same type of sophomore leap Jackson did.

Considering the best Eagles receiving tandem is probably Fred Barnett and Calvin Williams, Jackson and Mac-lin could easily jump to the top of this list, but if both fulfill their potential with the Birds, we could end up talking about one of the all-time great pairs in the NFL.
