Canadian guard signs with Drexel

August 17, 2010

Drexel, a basketball team in need of reinforcements, is adding a 6-5 combination guard from Canada.

Stevan Manojlovic, from Toronto's Martingrove Collegiate Institute, is enrolling at Drexel next month. The Web site beRecruited.com lists the Serbian-born Manojlovic's potential major as geological engineering. Among MCI's prominent alumni are actor Kiefer Sutherland and former NHL defenseman Bruce Driver.

MCI was the 3A champion of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, winning the title, 56-54, on a buzzer-beater putback by Manojlovic.

Drexel is down to nine players, including two incoming freshmen, after starting point guard Jamie Harris and reserve forward Kevin Phillip were charged in a July 21 robbery and suspended from the university.

Story continues below.

Harris, Phillip and another Drexel student, Devon Bond, are accused of breaking into an apartment on Lancaster Avenue near 35th Street. The three are out on bail.

According to Harris' defense lawyer, Gregory Pagano, Harris is looking to enroll elsewhere. *
