Paperwork errors free 2 Delaware County prisoners

Two more prisoners are free from the Delaware County lockup after being mistakenly released.

Bench warrants were issued for Ateia Polk, 32, of the 4500 block of North 11th Street in Philadelphia, and David Jeffrey Wilson, 19, of 100 block of West 22d Street in Chester, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Both were freed due to paperwork errors, said Erica Parham, assistant district attorney.

The county prison has been operated by Community Education Centers Inc. of West Caldwell, N.J., since January 2009. Calls to John J. Clancy, chief executive officer of Community Education Centers, for comment were not returned. Prison superintendent John A. Reilly and warden Frank Green also did not return calls for comment.

Wilson had been found guilty of firearms violations, Parham said. When due in court Aug. 16, he did not arrive from prison.

"We found out on the day of a scheduled sentencing he had been released on Aug. 4," Parham said.

Polk, charged with robbery and retail theft in Upper Darby, was picked up in Philadelphia and taken to the Delaware County Prison on a bench warrant. At a bail hearing, the judge rescinded the bench warrant and revoked bail. When Polk didn't arrive from the prison for a court hearing July 27, officials discovered she had been released.

Officials asked that anyone with information on Wilson or Polk call county detectives at 610-891-4700.

Wilson and Polk were at least the second and third inmates since June to walk free by mistake. On June 14, murder suspect Taaqi "Fame" Brown of Germantown, who was being held without bail, was released after being confused with an inmate with a similar name, according to the District Attorney's Office. He turned himself in a day later.
