The 76ers said Thursday that forward Andres Nocioni has been advised to withdraw from the FIBA World Championship tournament effective immediately because of his sprained left ankle. The tournament begins Saturday.
An MRI exam on the 6-foot-7 forward's left ankle was reviewed by team doctor Jack McPhilemy, who recommended that the 30-year-old Nocioni, who would have played for Argentina, stop all basketball and impact activity until the Sixers open training camp at the end of September. At that time, the ankle will be reevaluated.
