Ridley alum Friel named Radnor AD

Posted: August 31, 2010

Mike Friel, a member of Ridley's 1994 state championship lacrosse team and one of the school's all-time leading scorers, has been named athletic director at Radnor High, a Central League rival of the Green Raiders.

A former English teacher at Ridley High, the 34-year-old Friel has been the boys' lacrosse coach at Springfield (Delco), another Central League member, for the last eight years. He guided the Cougars to league championships in 2005 and 2010. He previously served as an assistant lacrosse coach at Cabrini.

"Radnor has great athletic facilities and a great academic reputation," Friel said. "This a great opportunity for me."

Radnor pitcher commits. Connor Walsh, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound righthander, has orally committed to play for Cincinnati next year.

Walsh was 2-3 with a 1.80 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 33 innings as a junior at Radnor last season. He set a school record with 19 strikeouts in a game against Haverford. He also fanned 11 on two other occasions.

New coach at LC. Lansdale Catholic named Tim Udinski as its new boys' lacrosse coach. He succeeds Brian Kilpatrick, who left to take the same job at the new Pope John Paul II High in Royersford.

Udinski, a former PIAA official, is president of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association. He was a founder of the Mount Carmel CYO lacrosse team.
