Tony Smith

George Washington, Sr., QB, 6-3, 220

What he has done. Smith said he transferred from Father Judge to Washington for financial reasons. In the last two seasons with the Crusaders, he threw for more than 2,800 yards and 26 touchdowns. Last year, while earning second-team all-Catholic League Class AAAA honors, the 17-year-old connected on 110 of 215 passes for 1,255 yards and 13 scores. Smith, also a basketball player, went to QB camps at Cincinnati, Rutgers, Temple, and Virginia.

What he says. "This is new to me, as most of my friends go to Judge. But it's coming along well. It's getting more and more comfortable for me."

What his coach says. "He's played quarterback his whole life. He's been trained very well. I like the way he goes through his progressions."

- Ron Cohen

Shawn Oakman

Penn Wood, Sr., TE/DE, 6-8, 250

What he has done. Oakman, also a standout frontcourt player in basketball, was credited with 116 tackles, including 17 sacks, last season. In the Patriots' bid to claim top honors in the Del-Val League this season, he will move around on defense, lining up at end, tackle and middle guard. Oakman, who made four scoring receptions at tight end last season, has committed to Penn State, choosing the Nittany Lions over Pittsburgh, South Carolina, and Temple.

What he says. "The No. 1 goal is making the playoffs. We should be real good. We've all worked hard in practice."

What his coach says. "He's so fast off the ball. He's in the offensive backfield before anyone has a chance to react." - Sam Mormando

John Loughery

Penn Charter, Sr., QB, 6-5, 225

What he has done. The rifle-armed signal-caller took over the starting spot three games into his sophomore season when his cousin, John Ryan, went down with an injury. In 19 appearances, Loughery has thrown for 3,065 yards and 24 touchdowns. Last year, he completed 177 of 312 passes for 2,065 yards and 18 scores. The 17-year-old from Wayne, a three-sport competitor, is receiving interest from Princeton, Duke, and Boston College, among others.

What he says. "With the recruiting, I want to wait and see what happens. There's no rush. It's a big decision."

What his coach says. "He's worked very hard in the weight room, his arm strength has improved, and he really understands the game."

- Jeff Humble

Tyler Kroft

Downingtown East, Sr., TE, 6-5, 225
