Letters: PHA board member was unfairly portrayed

September 02, 2010

The editorial "PHA board isn't blameless" (Aug. 29) states that "board member Patrick Eiding ... missed six meetings during that time. He, too, appears unable to fulfill his basic fiduciary responsibility." How the Inquirer asserts the conclusion without providing any evidence regarding Eiding's capabilities is troubling. It unfairly portrays Eiding, who has been the labor chairman of the Philadelphia Area Labor Management Committee, for the last nine years.

Eiding's oversight of my organization and his performance as board chair have been active, intelligent, and crucial to our success. While my board meets only once every three months, Eiding has met with me at least once a month to review my organization's activities and to provide counsel and direction.

Story continues below.

Eiding's leadership as president of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO, providing direction to more than 100 local union affiliates, and his aggressive management of his own organization certainly refute any statement that he lacks the attention and capability to exercise "basic fiduciary responsibility."
