TED SILARY

ON THE CITY LEAGUES

La Salle at North Penn

Tonight, 7 o'clock

The Explorers' two main skill returnees on offense, Jamal Abdur-Rahman and Tim Wade, are primarily rushers, but don't expect the passing game to be dormant. That's not how the Gordons roll - head coach Drew and son Brett, the offensive coordinator.

Story continues below.

Roman vs. West Catholic

At Maxwell Field, Wildwood, N.J.

Tomorrow, noon

Check this out, then hit the beach. You might be seeing two of the Catholic League's future classification champions. The subplot: Roughly 10 starters total from the ol' North Catholic (RIP) split between the teams. And Roman will have a few from the other outta-here city CL school (Dougherty).

SJ Prep vs. Washington

At Northeast

Tomorrow, 6 o'clock

This one would have been a shade more compelling in recent seasons, as Prep appears to be a step below its usual self. Then again, any matchup between upper-echelon programs from the Catholic/Public leagues deserves your attention.

JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO ON DELAWARE COUNTY

Springfield at Interboro

Tonight, 7:30

This is an interesting season opener for both teams. Interboro will be one of the top Class AAA teams in District 1, while Springfield is looking to start strong and will be looking for a berth in the District 1 Class AAA playoffs. The Cougars will be led by what is arguably Delco's top running threat, Matt Craig, who rushed for 22 touchdowns and more than 1,800 yards last year. Interboro counters with a traditionally strong defense and an explosive offense of its own, led by senior quarterback Adam Smith.
