4. Develop Jeremy Maclin and Brent Celek into stars: Defenses are going to key on Jackson, and despite the importance of point No. 2, this also has to happen to keep the offense steady. If Maclin and Celek are productive enough, point No. 2 gets easier.

5. Kolb has to be the guy Andy Reid thought he was when he drafted him in 2007: Growing pains, sure, those can be endured, but the talent and potential have to show through.

Story continues below.

FIVE KEYS ON DEFENSE

1. Pressure without blitzing: Brandon Graham, please pick up the white courtesy phone, please.

2. Pass-rush push up the middle: Time for Brodrick Bunkley to show he can do this. Or Trevor Laws. Or Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, moving inside on passing downs. Somebody. Please.

3. Pass coverage from the linebackers: Has to be better than last year. Can't be much worse.

4. Tackling: Especially from the linebackers and the secondary. Huge problem last season.

5. Sean McDermott's players, Dick Jauron's input: The young defensive coordinator was left to play a tough hand last year, taking over upon the death of Jim Johnson. This year, McDermott got to choose the players, and Reid gave him an experienced voice in Jauron to help with the rough spots. Preseason seemed to hint at huge overall improvement.
