Wed. Pa. girls’ roundup: First ‘W’ for Pope John Paul II

It was a day of firsts for the new Pope John Paul II High School on Wednesday.

The girls' soccer team registered the school's first win, overwhelming visiting Chichester, 8-2, in a nonleague game and Danielle Kiniry scored the first girls' varsity goal, while Monica Bladel was the school's first multiple goal-scorer, notching a pair of goals.

In other nonleague games:

Hatboro-Horsham's defense carried the day in a 3-0 nonleague win at Wissahickon. The Hatters limited the Trojans to just one shot and Marykate Bateman, Sam Bickel and Carly Black scored.

Moira Petrie's three goals were the difference for Lower Merion in a 4-1 win at Archbishop Carroll. Petrie now has seven goals in three games, all wins. Callie Page also scored for the Aces.

Ali Swider's goal five minutes into the second half off a pass from Tracy Kline gave Upper Merion a 1-0 win at Harry S. Truman.

Linnea Faccenda scored both goals for Downingtown East in its 2-1 win at Strath Haven.

Kenday Frey ans Bethany Houpt assisted on Faccenda's goals.

Chelsea Baker and Soraya Toppin-Herbert scored second-half goals for host Phil-Mont Christian in a 2-0 win over Christian Academy. Goalie Allegra Schnitzel had 10 saves for the shutout.

Pioneer Athletic. Lauren Mengel scored three minutes into overtime to give Boyertown a 2-1 win at Perkiomen Valley. Mengel scored off a pass from Devyn Heidelbaugh. Hollie Garber also scored for the Bears. Becky Gilligan scored for the Vikings.

Kristen Habbel, Catie Hamilton and Bailey Stover scored for Phoenixville in a 3-2 win at Upper Perkiomen.

 

Field Hockey

Sam Boyd scored 21 minutes into the second half to break a tie and give host Upper Dublin a 2-1 nonleague win over Fort Washington rival Germantown Academy.

Emily Hitchings put the Cardinals up, 1-0, with a first-half goal assisted by Jen Harchut. Brooke Kiley tied it up 14 minutes into the second half for the Patriots.

In other nonleague games:

Grace Boston's hat trick powered host Cardinal O'Hara past Upper Darby, 9-0.

The Lions (2-0-1) put the game away with five second-half goals, two by Carlie Spaeder.

Ellen Thorburn scored 53 seconds into overtime to give host Agnes Irwin a 3-2 win over Harriton. Chelsea Gilman and Emily Wetz also scored for the Owls.

Danielle Weidman's goal with 9 minutes, 28 seconds left in the first half turned out to be the game-winner for host Central Bucks West in a 2-1 win over Pennsbury. Olivia Foster also scored for the Bucs.

Allie Brady scored a second-half goal for the Falcons.
