Wallace was named All-Public League as a cornerback last year. But it is off the field where Wallace really excels.
"He is an outstanding student," Tunney said. "He has maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the last 2 years and has been recognized by the Eagles as a scholar-athlete for the last 2 years.
"He works very hard in the weight room and has shown great leadership skills, earning him the role of team captain. He helped run offseason workouts, and ran captain practices over the summer to get the team ready for the upcoming season."
Winners of the award will attend the game with an adult chaperone (it must be a parent, guardian or coach). Wallace will meet Weaver after the game and will receive two pregame sideline passes, courtesy of the Eagles.
The winners are chosen for exhibiting great effort on the field and in the classroom, as well as showing great character off the field. Nominees are submitted to the Daily News and the final selection is made by Weaver.
The third-year program was the brainchild of former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins, and was taken over last year by quarterback Donovan McNabb.
"Daniel is the type of player that speaks with his actions," Tunney said. "He is never late to class, practice, or meetings. He is praised by his teachers, classmates, teammates, and coaches for his work ethic. Daniel has never received any discipline in school or on the field for his behavior. I would love to have a team consisting of players just like Daniel."
