Action News reporter/anchor Lisa Thomas-Laury did not sway a Montgomery County jury, which last week found in favor of a doctor and Lankenau Hospital in her medical-malpractice lawsuit.

Thomas-Laury, 56, and her husband, William, a physician, had accused the hospital and Clifford Pemberton of failing to diagnose her rare nerve disorder. The Mayo Clinic diagnosed and treated her for POEMS syndrome, the suit said. Thomas-Laury was out of work for 38 months before she returned to 6ABC in 2007. Michael Barrett, her attorney, declined to comment on the verdict.

In the glossies

Sabir Peele, an admissions counselor at the University of the Sciences, was voted fan favorite in Esquire's Best Dressed Real Man contest. Peele, 24, who describes his style as "a mix of collegiate prep and business sophistication" after having been told he has the look of an "urban professor," had more than 44,700 profile views over the four-month challenge. Peele, who made the top five, is featured in the September issue of Esquire. He says he fields "random accolades" on his lunchtime walks, and while he is not a clothes horse "I wish I had a bigger clothing budget."

Main Line native Jenna Blatstein's lingerie is worn (more or less) by Kim Kardashian on August's cover of Allure mag. The designer, whose nom de plumes is Jenna Leigh, is daughter of developer Bart Blatstein and his wife, Jill.

Speaking of design: "Happy Chic" guru Jonathan Adler was spotted Wednesday, with an assistant, browsing on the 1600 block of Walnut Street.

Weep not for Gwen Gioia, who washed out of ABC's Bachelor Pad earlier this week. The Chester Springs woman says she went on the show - a competition among previous Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants - with one thing in mind: "The $250,000," she said. "I thought, I have a one-in-19 chance - why don't I just go for it?" She'll be back at work Monday.

CBS3 is running a casting call, open to solos, duos, and troupes, for Paula Abdul's forthcoming dance-competition show. It will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Jazz Unlimited Studios in Marlton Crossing Shopping Center; info: www.cbsphilly.com.

Fox29 will close the 300 block of Market Street from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday for its Good Day show's salute to the military, in conjunction with WXTU (92.5).

Sounds like howl-oween

Hatfield's Pixie Schmidt, a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier, turns up in an Animal Planet web-video series called "Small Dogs, Big Jobs." Pixie's owner, Peggy Schmidt, an owner of Ghost Tours of America, has the pooch tag along on paranormal investigations. Schmidt says Pixie sometimes barks or stops in her tracks at the sign of ghosts. See video at http://go.philly.com/pixie

Holidays collide

It began to look a lot like Christmas last week at one home in Wynnewood, where production company Igniter Films decorated for a holiday commercial for QVC, the electronic retailer. The homeowners, Amy and Gary Steinberg, accommodated the crew around their own preparations for the Jewish high holy days.
