Raymond E. Hull, 78, of Drexel Hill, a Delaware County public school teacher for 19 years, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Delaware County Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, one of 12 children, Mr. Hull graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1950 and was an Army clerk at the Aberdeen (Md.) Proving Ground from 1952 to 1954.

Mr. Hull earned a bachelor's degree in January 1959 at what is now West Chester University, where he was on the soccer and track teams.

From September 1959 to August 1963, said his wife, Patricia, Mr. Hull taught geography in what are now middle school classes in Oxford, Chester County, where he coached the high school's varsity soccer team.

From 1963 until he retired in 1992, he taught geography and then history at what is now Haverford (Township) Middle School, while he was a coach of the soccer, track, and wrestling teams.

After years of night school classes, Mr. Hull earned a master's degree in education at Temple University in 1969.

In 1986, he was honored for his 13 years as a volunteer trainer for the football team at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hull is survived by sons Raymond A. and Gregory, daughter Susan Hull, a brother, two sisters, and a grandson.

A visitation is set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Toppitzer Funeral Home, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill, before a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 3422 Dennison Ave., Drexel Hill, with burial in Arlington Cemetery.
