TEMPLE AT PENN STATE

Records: Temple 3-0, Penn State 2-1.

History: Penn State leads the series, 35-3-1. Temple's last win was in 1941. Last year, it was 31-6.

Temple update: The Owls scored the final 16 points to beat Connecticut at Lincoln Financial Field, 30-16, their first win over a BCS team since beating Syracuse in 2004 . . . They're 3-0 for first time in 31 years . . . Bernard Pierce rushed for 169 yards and scored three TDs . . . In the last four games against Penn State, the Owls have rushed for 82 yards.

Penn State update: The Nittany Lions are ranked 23rd after beating Kent State at home, 24-0, the 41st shutout under Joe Paterno . . . QB Rob Bolden has thrown for 200-plus yards twice . . . The Nits haven't lost to a Mid-American Conference team since 2000 (Toledo).

PENN AT VILLANOVA

History: Villanova leads the series, 9-5. Penn's last win was in 1911.

Penn update: The Quakers opened last week with a come-from-behind, 19-14 home win over Lafayette . . . Starting quarterback Keiffer Garton, who is coming back from offseason knee surgery, didn't play, and might not play in this one . . . DB Jon Saelinger had three interceptions in the opener . . . The Quakers are 3-9 against ranked FCS teams, and have never beaten one higher than No. 16 (Princeton, 1993).

Villanova update: The No. 2 Wildcats beat Towson in their first home game, 43-7 . . . They've won 12 straight at home and 20 of their last 21 . . . They're giving up 2.1 yards per rush . . . Aaron Ball needs 165 yards to move into second-place behind Brian Westbrook on the program's all-time rushing list . . . Dorian Wells has nine catches for 195 yards and three TDs.
