RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey college student who was allegedly recorded surreptitiously having sex in his dorm room apparently killed himself.

A law enforcement official says the 18-year-old man's driver's license and Rutgers University ID were found in a wallet left on the George Washington Bridge on Sept. 22 after two witnesses saw the person jump from the structure. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because no body has been recovered.

Two Rutgers students have been charged with illegally taping the man having sex and posting the images on the Internet. Authorities allege two encounters were taped.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Wednesday that a lawyer for the alleged victim confirmed the Ridgewood native was a roommate of one of the defendants.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office has charged Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei with invasion of privacy, accusing them of placing a camera in the 18-year-old student's dorm room. Authorities allege two encounters were taped.

Ravi, of Plainsboro, was released on $25,000 bail Tuesday. Wei, of Princeton, was released on her own recognizance Monday.

Collecting or viewing sexual images without consent is a fourth-degree crime. Transmitting them is a third-degree crime with a maximum prison term of five years. A lawyer for Ravi didn't immediately return a message. It wasn't clear if Wei had retained a lawyer. - AP
