New coaches for Washington Twp., Gloucester Catholic

Posted: September 30, 2010

The Washington Township boys' basketball and Gloucester Catholic softball teams have new coaches.

Bob Byatt resigned as coach at Washington Township after seven seasons and was replaced by his assistant, Matt Kiser. Byatt, also a former head coach at West Deptford, said he stepped down for personal reasons.

Tom Sullivan, a 1977 graduate of Gloucester Catholic, was named the school's softball coach. Sullivan replaces Joe Matranga, who headed the program for the last two years and guided the Rams to the Non-Public B state title in 2010.

Sullivan, 51, said he has been coaching baseball or softball since he was 19. However, for about the last 10 years, he has been devoted to softball.
