Track facts: Richard Childress Racing lost an appeal yesterday to overturn the 150-point penalty incurred by driver Clint Bowyer for violations cited after the New Hampshire race, the first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. NASCAR said the car was too high, but RCR claims a tow truck caused the damage when it moved his car after his victory. RCR can appeal this ruling, which came after a 5-hour hearing, to NASCAR's chief appellate officer . . . This is the third race in the Chase . . . Tony Stewart led only 37 laps, including the final 30, in winning last year. Jeff Gordon was runner-up; Greg Biffle was third . . . Stewart is a two-time winner at Kansas. Other Chasers with Kansas wins: Jeff Gordon, two; Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson, one each . . . In non-Chaser Ryan Newman's last five races this season he has one sixth-place finish, three eighths and an 11th. Newman finished ninth in last year's Chase.

Wins: Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson, 6 each; Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch, 3 each; Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch, 2 each; Ryan Newman, David Reutimann, Greg Biffle, Juan Pablo Montoya, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, 1 each.
